Gray Birch

Gray Birch is a small, fast-growing tree with an open, irregular crown and bright green foliage that turns yellow in fall. Its chalky white bark is accented by distinctive dark triangular markings beneath the branches. As a pioneer and nurse tree, gray birch can quickly establish on disturbed sites while providing shade and protection for developing seedlings. It is also a larval host for the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.
